How to know if your organization is grant-ready
A practical checklist for nonprofits before you invest time in the next application — readiness, voice, and funder fit.
Most organizations come to grant writing too early — or too late. Readiness is not about having a perfect binder. It is about knowing where you stand so the proposal can tell a clear, fundable story.
Start with systems, not the form
Funders look for signals that you can deliver. That usually means:
- A clear program description and who you serve
- Basic financials and governance you can share
- Outcomes you can describe in plain language
- Capacity to report if you win
If those pieces are thin, the best next step is often a readiness conversation — not a rushed application.
Keep your voice authentic
Strong proposals still sound like your organization. Medina’s approach is collaborative: we coach through funder dynamics and keep you involved so the application stays true to your work.
Practice the conversation
Many grants end with a site visit or a panel conversation. Rehearsing those moments — questions, roles, follow-up — is part of preparing for a “yes.”
If you want a second set of eyes on readiness or a live proposal, book a consultation.
